His name was Shah Rukh Khan, a dreamy Pathan from New Delhi.

Her name was Gauri Chibber, the quintessential Punjabi kudi.

He was Muslim. She was Hindu.

They first met at a friend’s party, and it was love at first sight for Shah Rukh Khan.

SRK was possessive and particular about things related to Gauri (read clothes, her hair etc).

His possessiveness was the reason Gauri had to leave him and go to Bombay.

A heartbroken Shah Rukh Khan left for Bombay with Rs.10,000 in hand and no place to stay.

The frantic search for Gauri began.

Shah Rukh Khan knew that Gauri frequented beaches a lot.

On a trip to Gorai Beach, he met Gauri, again! Love “reblossomed”!

Shah Rukh Khan married Gauri on October 25, 1991.SRK and Gauri have two children – Aryaan & Suhana

Their residence at Bandra is called Mannat.

The Mannat household follows both religions, and is famous for its Diwali and Holi, as well as, the Eid celebrations.

Gauri Khan is the co-owner of Shah Rukh Khan’s production company, Red Chillies Entertainment.

Karan Johar (who else!) is planning a movie based on the life of SRK-Gauri Khan.

Shah Rukh Khan on Gauri: “My wife comes first. I can tell you this much, that if ever I am asked to make a choice between my career and Gauri, I will leave films. I would go insane, but for her. She is the only thing I have… I love her body. I am hooked to her.”

Gauri on Shah Rukh Khan: “He was ambitious from his childhood. He has always been on top. Studies, football, hockey, theatre, anything he would touch would be gold. I think I was smart to marry him. I think its my smartness that I chose the right guy.”

The love story of Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Chibber is the stuff that Bollywood masalas are made of. As Veeru (of ‘Sholay’) would quip, “Is Hishtorry mein drama hai, emotion hai, romance hai, comedy hai…”. This is also a typically Indian tale of romance, for it encapsulates one of the oft-repeated mottos/slogans of Independent India: “Unity in Diversity”.

Says K Jo, “I want to make a movie on SRK and Gauri’s romance. It has the recipe for a great film as it has got passion, love, parental rejection to the final triumph as he became the most loved son-in-law in the country. Maybe when SRK’s son grows up, I might cast him to play his father’s character. That would be really good.”
